A clutch replacement is priced on parts plus labour, and both swing widely by car: a small hatchback is a different job to a diesel SUV where the gearbox is harder to get to, and some cars need the flywheel done at the same time. Anyone quoting one price for every car over the phone is guessing.

Caught early, a worn clutch is a planned job instead of a breakdown. Watch for:
Revs climb but the car doesn’t pull — clearest sign of wear.
The pedal engages right at the top of its travel.
A hot, acrid smell after hills or towing.
Effort or judder that wasn’t there before.
Hard gear changes can be clutch drag, not the gearbox.
Three things: the parts kit (clutch plate, cover and release bearing — and on many modern cars a dual-mass flywheel, which is the expensive bit), the labour hours the manufacturer books for your exact model, and whether anything else is found worn once the gearbox is off. We itemise all three on your quote so you can see exactly what you’re paying for.
Usually yes — a car that’s otherwise healthy is almost always cheaper to keep than to replace. But if the car’s value is marginal we’ll say so honestly before you commit. We’d rather lose a job than have you spend badly.
